When Saturday comes & there isn’t any football.....

With the increasingly likelihood that I have seen my last live game of the season, here’s a thread looking back at 10 games that are memorable for me in this truncated season.

Spoiler Alert:
#cpfc #hrbfc #asr #threelions #rfc
First Game: FC Luzern v Palace

The start of a new season brings with it the hope that maybe, just maybe this could be Palace’s year.

It also brings a pre-season tour, beers & back to talking shite with mates. First up, sleepy but picturesque Biel.
Ticking the 92: Salford v Leeds

Well 90 but you know what I mean!
Salfords promotion to the Football League had me heading to a sold out AJ Bell stadium with @Clapham_Grand. Both sets of fans made for a feisty atmosphere.

Posh seats, free bar & on the pitch for the draw. ✔️
Best European Night: Rangers v Feyenoord

Vodka, more vodka & even more vodka. A magical night at Ibrox with @daryl9791.

In the week that one of my favourite players passed away, the tannoy played Fernando. A tear appeared. RIP Fernando Ricksen.
YLTSI: Bulgaria v England

‘Who put the ball in racists net’

I love an England away double header, Prague & Sofia didn’t disappoint. Time for plenty of beers & giggles with mates. A game that will always be remembered for racism overshadowed the 3 Lions tearing the hosts apart.
Planes, Trains & Water Taxis: Venezia v Pordenone

I’d always wanted to go to a game in Venice & with the beautiful Pier Luigi Penzo due to be demolished, off I went with my father. Wonderful family time & a great local derby with 3 late goals.

Venice flooded a week later.
The Promise: Udinese v Roma

Each season there is 1 Roma game that I promise myself, one way or another I’ll go to. This year it was this one.

Tickets through Kappa with the Roma dignitaries, the game is a gemellaggio so could celebrate all 4 Roma goals especially Smalling’s.
Ground hopping: Albania U21’s v England U21’s

Landed in Tirana & a coach full of us headed to the Loro Borici Stadium in Shkoder. 72p to get in & 50p a beer to watch Phil Foden & co cruise to victory in a traditional style Balkan stadium. Classic ground hopping!
The Holy Grail: Kosovo v England

Tickets rarer than a Mark Noble England cap. The best England trip of the decade. Pristina said it would make England fans welcome & it didn’t disappoint. An unforgettable few days with mates in the friendliest place I have ever visited.
On Your Seat: Brighton v Palace

That feeling when a goal goes in is wonderful. That feeling when you score against Brighton is 10x more powerful. An explosion of noise, smoke & limbs as the away end went berserk. Within a fraction of a second I’m on my seat.
Get. In. There.
The Last Game: Hampton v Oxford City

A few beers with mates in JC’s before a little walk around the corner & into the Beveree. We talked a bit about CV-19 but in hindsight, we had no idea what was ahead of us. Life was still very normal. Hampton drew & it was back to the pub.
Thank you for reading.

10 games of the 2019/20 season that will live long in my memory. They weren’t necessarily the best games (Eng v Kos), the most exciting (Ars v Pal) or even the highest profile (Roma v Juve), going football is far more than that.

Amore Sui Terrazzi.
