i’ve been a dm for nearly 6 months now, something i never saw myself doing when i first played dnd but i kind of want to share my experience
my first rule is to never expect anything out of anyone while my second is for my players to have fun in the end. if nobody had fun i would seriously beat myself up for it
i’ve learned it’s easy for things to fall through when my players check me, so i’ve made sure to cover all my bases with plots and backgrounds
but the thing that got me emotional this week is that recently my players have been thanking me for having great world building and amazing characters which is quite honestly something i didn’t expect so of course i cried
for my friends and family to actually love what i create, makes me love what i’m doing. that’s the only thing i can ask for as a DM
and honestly i prefer dming now over playing because i like hanging around in the back which is not fun to do when you play
this thread has gotten long but i want to thank all my players for being their best selves and to hug my younger self and say hey, there’s no rush
