#Thread: An example of bigotry in corporate world. Context: I'm an atheist who fasts for Navratri, Ramzan, every Monday, Janamashtami, Shivratri, Lent, etc. I love how my body feels detoxed after fast & it helps me connect to people in interfaith spaces. Here's the conversation:
I was considering a new contract/retainer client as I am a freelancer. The lady asked me if they could call me again a bit later in the evening. I said sure, not between 6:30-7:30 as I prepare my iftaar and eat it. There was a sudden silence on that end. Then she says:
"I didn't know you are THOSE kind of people... as in from your name... It didn't appear that you are.. you know... You know what I am trying to say... Are you that type?"
I didn't help her. I coolly enquired: "Eh, what kind of people?"
She: You know Ramzan kind of people
I calmly explained what I mentioned in Tweet 1 of this thread: I love fasting. I do it for interfaith solidarity. It is good for my body. Etc. I asked her if she's even bothered to read my CV because I have mentioned interfaith activist in it.
She seemed quite relieved & replies:
