BRG found this kind of horrifying show #MarriedAtFirstSight9, and while there’s a lot of cringe, I cannot get over the absolute tragedy of Keith and Iris.

We’re at the meeting the parents the next day, and it’s so clear that no one ever talked to Keith about purity culture.
Like, their wedding night, with Iris’s coy little confession and the way she was acting the next morning, she’s so into him.

She thinks he’s handsome, she’s so happy it’s him and she wants him to take this “gift” she kept for him her whole life.
The way she says he’s such a gentleman reads to me as managing her disappointment. She was looking forward to this wedding night with him.

And he’s just so good, and trying to be so responsible with it and waiting for her to be comfortable, but like, that doesn’t fit her frame.
CW: spoilers

Iris said yes and he said no because they never consummated, but like she’s so thirsty and excited for him and it. Like, things happen on the honeymoon! At any point if someone explained that in purity culture her first time is literally his possession...
Like, someone involved in this show should have explained this all to him. He’s coming at this from the point of view of an educated modern man trying to do the right thing, but like, this culture mismatch is so painful to watch.
Oh god, she’s dropping so many hints on the first night of the honeymoon.

“It’s so romantic, I’m here with my gorgeous husband.”

And he’s being so cautious, and she’s like no, this is it, I’m so ready. I’m here for this.
And BRG is all like, “She’s talking about being a virgin again” and I’m like, yeah, it’s not that it’s her identity, she’s just so thirsty.

And he’s like “being a virgin, she probably feels pressure” so he wants to help her relax and be comfortable....
Like, he’s waiting for her to say she’s ready, and she’s like, I’ve waited my whole life for this, please I need to lose my v-card, husband.

It’s just so clear that no one even gave him like a purity culture primer.

I just can’t get over how negligent and tragic it feels.
She literally tells him on their honeymoon he’s in a race with himself, so of course he’s in first place.

Like, god damnit. Just because they’re both ostensibly Christian doesn’t mean that he understands what’s happening with this subculture.

But that minister knows. So tragic.
Also amused that a dumpsterfire liked the first post on this thread, so it’s possible I wasn’t clear that the tragedy is that they didn’t fuck because Keith was trying to respect her as a person and be patient.

Purity culture is toxic. She didn’t want her virginity anymore.
