In 2014, I joined eTV(eNCA) and in less that a two months Me and my colleague friend we decided that we want want to be able to view our pension fund account any time we want and not wait for the yearly fund statement.
I will never forget the look we got from the HR lady.
She said, it's not possible and She was with the company for over 10yrs and doesn't know about. We knew it was possible and we called Alexander Forbes and were told it's possible and signed up for the online platform. We saw that the fund our money was being invested in was..
Infact medium to High risk and we wanted High risk fund cause we had a long way to go. Back to the HR lady, we wanted to submit forms changing our fund to high risk. She wasn't happy and ended up getting us Alexander Forbes representative and We changed to the high risk fund.
Because I had a view on my pension fund, I decided when I get an increase that money goes to the pension fund and I was avoiding life style inflation.
Months later, they implemented an organisation wide change saying that all the employees will have to register on Alexander Forbes online platform to access their pension fund account and it was stopping printing out the yearly letter.
We never got any recognition for this but we were happy that two new employees could bring change to an organisation at that scale. Sometimes doing what you want for yourself actually can bring positive changes to those around you.
