It's been inspirational to see @MFA_SriLanka rising to the challenge during #COVID19. They've helped stranded citizens return home, delivered food and water to those who most need it, and helped restart markets by facilitating the exchange of #SriLankan produced PPE. (1/4)
They have done all this during a crisis, in countries with far larger outbreaks than ours, putting themselves and their families at significant risk. This is just another reminder of the day-to-day work our #diplomats do, all around the world for us. (2/4)
They influence decisions of countries far more powerful than us, and act as front-line defense against interference and aggression. But our #diplomats are often unable to truly shine for a variety of reasons; bureaucracy, lack of resources, and mentoring to name just a few. (3/4)
Investing in the development & wellbeing of our diplomatic corps, is an investment in the protection of our national security. I hope when we come out of all this, #SriLanka remembers that. It is only right they are recognized for all they do. (4/4)
