[1] I do want to recognize the fact that back when I used to be in NUSA ages ago, I made racist jokes, I welcomed racist jokes, I laughed at them, etc. I was inconsiderate and it’s something that I deeply regret. I was never genuinely racist but still, jokes are still rude.
[2] while I was away I changed and I did a lot of thinking. I met a real life cop, who happens to be an African American and he eventually became a mentor in my life. Making me realize how much of a prominent issue racial injustice is and how unfair our justice system can be.
[3] it’s an issue that has become important to me. Criminal justice reform is necessary, racism still exists all throughout our country, slowly being proven by situations such as #AhmaudAubrey. Which is why I aspire to be a civil rights attorney later on in life.
[4] fighting for the rights of those who are treated poorly simply on the basis of who they are or what they look like is a dream job. So I’m just going to end this off by apologizing for anyone that I offended in the past, not that any of this excuses my past options.
