Targeting young adults facing financial uncertainty- especially in these circumstances- is extremely predatory. Unfortunately, this isn’t new. The military is very good at targeting people at a disadvantage, and enticing them with access to basic needs. https://www.stripes.com/news/us/us-army-plans-massive-recruiting-drive-for-summer-1.630967
But the reality of those promises is that many of them will never be met, and those that are are done so to the barest minimum and once you’ve served your purpose to them, they’ll chew you up and spit you out and abandon you.
The houses your family will live in would fail every single inspection if they were “civilian” housing with black mold and asbestos and infestations. The schools your children will attend are falling apart with non potable water. Mental healthcare is barely existent- if at all.
You’ll have very little-if any- protection from hazards when you deploy, and the health problems caused by exposure to those hazards will be ignored at best. Many enlistees will find that their family still requires the help of food programs.
Lining the pockets of the wealthy is not worth your life. You should have access to things like comprehensive healthcare and an education and a home and food for your family because those things are basic human rights, not because you were put in harms way to further the regime.
And there is nothing patriotic about killing a man for oil.
