So, since this today, I've had a few people ask why I would take this position. So I decided to share one of my responses with you all!
In terms of things like right to not be discriminated against in issues like healthcare, housing, employment, legal treatment, etc... I am totally for trans having equal rights!
Unfortunately, nowadays... this saying is used to promote the inclusion of trans people in women's sports, rape / domestic violence shelters, prisons, and many other issues that directly conflict with women's sex based rights.
Where I live, we have self-id. This means any male can simply declare themselves as feeling like a woman, and potentially sue anyone who disagrees with them demanding access to women's facilities... without ever having engaged in actual transition in any way.
There are some limits, like requirements of a year on hormones and blockers before being able to engage in sports, but even with those requirements, there are still a lot of issues.
We literally have 1 rape/dv shelter left in my entire province that only accepts females, and they are now denied funding, and actively campaigned against and harassed by activists for their stance, despite trans people having access to literally every single other shelter.
Terms such as homosexual, gay, lesbian are being redefined as same gender attraction instead of same sex attraction, and people are arguing that anyone who doesn't include trans people in their sexual orientation is transphobic.
It has changed from being activism demanding to be left alone in peace to live our best lives, to demanding complete acceptance in every single possible area, and...
in my opinion this kind of aggressive demanding toxic attitude will only serve to stir up resentment, and in no way serves to increase actual social acceptance.
