let’s have a real discussion.
how did we just accept how overworked and pressured one direction were? they got so caught up trying to be perfect they had to take shots before shows to loosen up enough to perform, developed extreme cases of anxiety, and even eating disorders etc.

we may have genuinely loved the boys together but that doesn’t negate all of the pain they’ve been through. liam has literally said they were 100% overworked and he believed if he didn’t stop he’d “end up a crazy child star that dies at whatever age.”
harry has expressed an immesurable amount of pressure he felt to live up to everyone’s expectations of him. he stated that “while i was in the band, i was constantly scared i might sing a wrong note. i felt so much weight in terms of not getting things wrong.”
though it caused many of us pain, zayn did leave. and for good reason. he opened up, explaining that he had developed an eating disorder from not having control of his own life. he said “the workload and the pace of life on the road put together with the pressures and strains of-
everything going on within the band had badly affected my eating habits.” he felt as though food was the only area in his life he could manage.
these boys were taken from home at very young ages and thrown into a world where perfection is demanded. they worked 6 tours in a 5 year span, not getting a break to themselves. between the endless touring they shot a movie, several music videos, other promo.
if that wasn’t enough, they’d be woken up at random hours of the night to record their next album. they barely slept and when they were too tired to carry on they’d get plastered and go sweat their asses off for our entertainment. we did nothing.
there are so many more instances that haven’t been discussed, though i encourage everyone to look into them. louis’ fatherhood is a powerful example of how pressure can be put on an individual. everyday, rumors circulated and tore him down when he was at his weakest. we let them.
the pressure has caused harry and zayn to leave social media almost entirely. louis went from the most bubbly outgoing person to private as well. niall continues to remain strong, doing things at his own pace. while liam continuously proves to be an advocate for mental health.
these boys have been through so much more than you could imagine. they do not deserve to be compared to one another or dragged for the statements they make regarding the band. it is also not necessary to repeatedly ask them to have a reunion when you do not know the full story.
their relationships may be strained, as many friendships/coworkers do. towards the end, an interviewer spoke with one of their drivers. he said “you only drove one of them? where were the others?” to which the driver responded, “in different cars.” it was a 15 minute ride.
none of us know anything, we need to stop pretending we do. if they take a little longer putting out an album, respect that. they didn’t have the opportunity to grow and experiment in the band.
lastly, support them all. they’ve all got their start from one direction regardless of where they are now. thank you for reading!
i never ask, but please RT this. there needs to be awareness for what they’ve gone through, people need to be held accountable.
