Incredible journey of a loggerhead turtle to home. This is Yoshi & she traveled 37000 kms from Africa to Australia to find her nesting grounds in March. Also incredible to observe how these creatures move to such a length & why we need to protect nesting grounds. #WorldTurtleDay
In another such case last year a green sea #turtle came from sea & laid eggs on middle of the aircraft #runway of Maafaru airport in Noonu Atoll. Little she knew that it is no more her home now because new runway was built. With it these turtles lost their old home.
Each year millions of turtles reach to coasts with perfect synchronization for laying eggs, phenomenon is called as Arribada (Odishapost). On Indian coasts also. Such is the world of turtles. We have fresh water turtles also which are indicator of health of rivers.
But all types of turtles now facing threat, some due to loss of habitat & others bcz of trafficking. They are used as Pets, Food, Feng Shui & for Aphrodasiac medicines. Supplied to Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, Thailand & Hong Kong. They are natural filters as well for Ganges. .
Some of them are on verge of extinction. This is last male Yangtze Giant Softshell #Turtle, which died recently. Now only three females are alive on the planet. They will die in our lifetime. Which means this species will be no more on #Earth !! PC NatGeo.
Now they are also getting effected by pollution & plastic. 104 pieces of #plastic in a #turtle. Turtles also eat plastic polythenes thinking them as jelly fish. That is how we are chocking all the #ecosystem. That is just one case how plastic is killing species. Pc Internet.
