Thread on why Terry McLaurin was the best rookie wide receiver and why he is a future NFL superstar:
His competition is AJ Brown, DK Metcalf, and Deebo Samuel. Here is a stat comparison:
Terry: 14 G, 58 Rec, 93 tgt, 919 yds, 7 TD
AJ: 16 G, 52 Rec, 84 tgt, 1051 yds, 8 TD
DK: 16 G, 58 Rec, 100 tgt, 900 yds, 7 TD
Deebo: 15 G, 57 Rec, 81 tgt, 802 yd, 3 TD, 159 rush yds, 3 TD

Deebo: 15 G, 57 Rec, 81 tgt, 802 yd, 3 TD, 159 rush yds, 3 TD
DK Metcalf:
- Terry had less games, equal receptions, less targets, more yards, and equal touchdowns (DK doesn& #39;t beat him in anything)
- He was the second target in SEA which means easier corners and more opportunity
- More physical, but is better than terry at nothing else

Deebo Samuel:
- Both had the same amount of opportunity, but Terry had more production in terms of touchdowns
- Deebo is utilized more as a gadget player, accounting for his rushing stats
- Terry has better route running, hands, and speed than deebo
- Also a second option

AJ Brown:
They are very close players, so this one will take longer
Stat breakdown:
- AJ Brown did more on less targets, and was more productive, but only marginally
- Is number 1 in the NFL for yards per target

Terry McLaurin had some of the worst QB play in the NFL last season, with about half Case Keenum and half rookie Dwayne Haskins. AJ Brown also had about half of his games with a bad QB, in Marcus Mariota, but the other half was with Ryan Tannehill when he took over.

AJ Brown& #39;s stats were quite mediocre early in the season when he had bad QB play with Mariota, but picked it up later in the season with Tannehill, who according to PFF was the 4th ranked QB during the season due to his efficiency. Just look at the game logs.

And for what it& #39;s worth, his production aligned with Derrick Henry& #39;s monster games as well. Derrick Henry was unstoppable behind their great line, and teams would typically stack the box against him in efforts to stop him, which usually failed. This opened up the field.

Of course, AJ Brown was solid at times with bad QB play, but Tannehill& #39;s presence and Henry& #39;s dominance down the stretch further elevated his play. Terry McLaurin was solid all year and had great games sprinkled throughout, with both Keenum and Haskins.

As for their traits, after watching both players throughout the season, I have determined who is best at what:
Size: Brown
Speed: McLaurin
Strength/Physicality: Brown
Hands: McLaurin
Route Running/Separation: McLaurin
YAC: Brown

I value traits such as hands and route running higher than the other attributes but take it for what it& #39;s worth. Here are some of their highlights.

Rasul Douglas played off of him and McLaurin was still able to separate from him and burn past him for the long touchdown. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq0m-GIrzhc">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
Literally watch the first clip. Brown is elite with the ball in his hands and better than McLaurin in this sense. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKoLqtfflUw">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
I dare you to try to find a clip where Brown showcases better hands. McLaurin burns Jaire Alexander and essentially does a 360 one handed catch in the end zone for a touchdown. One of the most underrated plays I saw all season. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLsOd4sE1j0">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
In this clip at around 0:53 Brown takes a slant to the house and muscles past some defenders too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcvaaYOaGOM">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
This was McLaurin against the DPOY in only Week 5. Gave him a run for his money. Not bad at all for a rookie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exJF1-4S1q0">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
At 9:50 McLaurin gets open for the touchdown but was overthrown. If this was Tannehill it probably goes right into his arms for a touchdown. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhCY_yHUWfc">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
Kalyn hates Brett
In all I think both players are future superstars and are amazing for their teams but I have to give McLaurin the edge for now and the future due to his more well rounded skill set and ability to produce despite being the only offensive threat on a team that, for a point in the..
season did not score a touchdown for an entire month. He faced some of the best corners in the league week in and week out and gave them all a run for their money. Both players will be elite for years to come, but for all these reasons I believe McLaurin was the best rookie WR.
