I want there to be more clarity about the varying influences and differences between Disney, Lucasfilm, and Bad Robot. Especially about how JJ/Terrio did not really work with the story group on IX, and how the powers that be _above_ Lucasfilm at Disney were pressuring & meddling.
Especially because I think a lot of the problems of IX come down to Disney's original sin: setting a release date and not budging an _inch_ on it despite not having a script or locked story almost 2 years out.
Look at TLJ: they had a story and script done (proper done) by TFA release, and Rian worked closely with the story group. TFA had _time_ to work on script/story, and worked more closely with Lucasfilm than JJ/Terrio did on IX.
The shitty constraints set by Disney, ignoring the fact that Trevorrow's screenplay wasn't working, set IX up for failure when there was evidence they _could_ make it work.
Then comes the ignoring the story group, the pressure to satisfy the very loud minority of fans that didn't like TLJ, etc etc etc. It's a shame. It didn't have to be that way.
Anyway, I started this thread because I think, in the ~ discourse ~, there is conflation of all these influences, often unfairly. I await the oral history of the making of IX, desperately.
