Hi this a REALLY LONG thread about how the song "Lifetime Achievement Award" by Lemon Demon reminds me so much of Akechi. Spoilers for p5 vanilla.
#Persona5 #GoroAkechi
"Die hard fans adored your hands.
They loved your throat and quote unquote "you"
This opening!! wow this kills me, in regards to Akechi, these lyrics are representative on how all of his fans loved his detective personality, his "hands" are covered by gloves, you cant even see-
them, its a cover. The "quote unquote 'you' " is obvious in that its speaking on the personality that he displays to the public which is obviously not him at all. "Throat" here to me is the words he says and how many people blindly believe them at first due to his popularity.
"Hey, remember Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson really happened Delta Echo Alpha Delta, walking on the moon forever"
A take on how easily people try and market off celebrities who are already dead or forget they exist at all because they're no longer alive to sell their life away
-to the fame. "Delta Echo Alpha Delta" is just nato phonetic alphabet for the word dead, walking on the moon forever is just symbolic on how he's going to be stuck doing that forever because its been encapsulated in videos and with hologram concerts.
"You are dead and buried, you are dead
That's being revised!
Even as we speak we're synthesizing blood and organs
Synthesizing heart and soul
Even Katy Perry knows you're dead
Won't she be surprised!
When we get your heart to start tomorrow-
-When you see the chart tomorrow you'll be number one"
the chORUSS is so good anyway time to write more ::))) . The talk about celebrity death "being revised" literally or figuratively. You could LITERALLY die as a celebrity and have the bigwigs or execs of the company beat your-
career even though theres no celebrity to take place in it anymore, or literally try and milk you for all you're worth when you're numbers are going down. In terms of Akechi, both happen (in vanilla)
Akechi's career drops substantially when the public believes the phantom thieves are on their side and begin chastising him and his public image despite willfully agreeing with his points only months earlier.
It's shown that these news outlets keep inviting them back onto their shows, trying to get him to slip up so they could milk his claims against the phantom thieves while he's still a hot topic. Unfortunate that no matter who he is Akechi is always being used by adults around him.
When he dies in vanilla he is steadfast forgotten by the public and quickly brushed under the rug, i think it was mentioned on the tv at the end of the game that news sources are conspiring that he was in cahoots with Shido and his men after Shidos fall-
and of course there is nobody alive to disagree with them, and nobody else to fight for Akechi because only Akira really cares after he dies. More cases of news sources using Akechi for gains and views, long after he's gone
"Bro, you look amazing
Really put together
It's like you haven't aged a day, oh
It's like we know what we're doing or something"
Akechi talks in the engine room about perfectly crafting his public image to be the MOST appealing it could be-
"bro you look amazing, really put together" he crafted this using bits and pieces based off other people he's probably seen, including that of naoto who was a teenage detective prince (the original one).
He keeps himself perfectly crafted in a way that so many different people will think he's ALMOST perfect. "its like we know what we're doing or something" The 'or something' Akechi is young, only 17, he DOESN'T know what he's doing,-
he thinks he does which is why the first part emphasizes that he thinks he knows what he's doing despite Shido knowing the whole time that Akechi was planning something, and Shido manipulating him the entire time while letting Akechi think he had the advantage.
Akechi really didn't know what he was doing, the plan was made by a 14/15 year old and probably was made up along the course of a couple years. It was a childish plan that would not have worked out even if the phantom thieves hasn't interfered.
Maybe Akechi knew this as well if he acknowledges that he might not really know for sure what he is doing. : /
'You've been gone for way too long, like half a year
An entire career for some
Good luck getting into Heaven if you live past 27
Listen to the radiation put you back in circulation "
After Akechi dies everyone forgets about him, his career game wise WAS around half a year.
His entire career was half a year and when he disappears, nobody cares.
"Good luck getting into heaven if you live past 27" is a phase that relates to the common conspiracy theory of the 27 club, a group of musical artists who supposedly made a deal with the devil, got very well known and famous, and then died at 27.
Akechi is 10 years younger than 27 exactly, and he did make a deal with what could be considered a devil. Akechi made a deal with Shido, which brought out Loki in him, as its implied that robin hood was his first persona (which i personally believe.)
Shido made Akechi into a murderer, which would supposedly speaking stop him from getting into heaven, and then Akechi died inside Shidos cognitive ship. At first Shido got Akechi to listen to the things he asked
"listen to the radiation" and then got him famous enough to sway the public as the detective prince "put you back in circulation."
