Today one of my friends who is trying to enter seminary told me that he was told to “date around” and then come back and see if he still feels called… and I just CANNOT stress enough how bad this advice is? Women are not tools to be used in discernment. We are people!! BYE!!!
I am not going to pretend that I know what it takes to form a man into a priest, I do not know the catholic male experience. But I do know that women are constantly being ignored in the process and I am so BEYOND tired of it!
When a spiritual director, a trusted priest, tells a young man it is okay to date a girl EVEN IF he is discerning, he is putting that girl at risk. In our church, marriage is seen as the ultimate good for women, and to have our emotions toyed with like this is disgusting.
