I really need folks to think about the range of faith communities they're talking about & the realities of our tax code when they say stuff like this. https://twitter.com/acnewsitics/status/1263903437625847808
Churches don't actually not pay taxes.
Churches get PPP because we pay payroll taxes. Ministers pay both employee taxes and self employed taxes.

I'm clear that like, Joel Osteen doesn't pay his taxes as a person or an entity and we should fix that.

But also like. It'd be cool if everyone rich paid their taxes.
I like, actually do not want to fight about this with y'all. Churches are 501c3 organizations, like with anything some organizations will take advantage and others won't.
if you're under the impression that changing the tax code such that "making churches pay taxes" would somehow do something meaningful to Joel Osteen or the Catholic church rather than just shutting down smaller, more inclusive, less Christian communities all together...
Well, I got ocean front property in Arizona you should check out
(Also "should pay taxes" doesn't follow from "is essential" and how exactly do you think not-for-profit hospitals work?)
(And now I'm done with this.)
