Having grown up just outside of a small rural town without a pool or much in the way of organized sports, I have thoughts about the way some parents are losing their damn minds about activities being closed for the summer....
I spent hours in the treed area around our house, in the sprinkler, on the trampoline, biking down gravel roads,... Your kids will not be damaged by not having a pool or splash park to go to.
Right now, they get to experience boredom and the creativity that comes from it! This isn’t about popping them in front of a screen... Shut off the tv and video games! Go explore beyond the things you usually see and do!
I would get poison ivy every year... sometimes multiple times... because there was no restrictions on what I could do and I never had to be around other people to do it.
I built forts in the bushes, picked wild saskatoons, found puddles and mud, came home bruised and covered in scratches. I got to go to a pool if we were lucky enough to be spending a night at a hotel in the city! I promise... your kids will be fine. My kids will be fine.
