1. Practice makes perfect.
pick an habit, write every day, it doesn't matter if it is a sentence or 1K words. It also doesn't matter if it sucks or if it's the best thing you've ever came with. just write every day

2. Read a lot.
english is not my mother tongue so writing in english might be super hard sometimes because of the lack of vocabulary. the way to solve that is reading. and even if you are writing in your native language, reading will help you to get better at developing the story

3. Following number 2, don't compare your work to others, but use them as inspiration. Everyone has his own writing color, you won't ever write the same way others do. that doesn't mean there are better or worse writers than you. there's just more experienced people.
learn from the ones you admire, never think lower of yourself. you are a great writer, you just need to find your color! allow yourself to ask for thinks, don't be shy
4. Share your works.
It doesn't have to be on the internet, you can let your family or friends read it. Feedback always helps with motivation. It took me 11 years to share my works to the internet, at first only my friends read it, but it helped a lot

5. Don't be your own judge if you have low self-esteem because that way you will never improve. You are a great writer your brain is just mean
6. Don't be afraid of pouring your heart into your works. If you feel the same your characters are feeling, it will be more realistic.
7. One thing that helps me a lot when it comes to write expressions is making them myself. I look like an idiot making faces into my laptop but it's really helpful.
8. The length of your work doesn't define if it's good or bad. There's this thing called drabble that refers to short pieces of fiction (100-500 words). And its objective is to see the capacity of the author to express something in very short words.
if you can reach someone's heart in such short works, you're say to be a good writer. so take the length out of your head as a thing that makes your works better. it's not actually that important
9. Find your time.
I mean, the time my brain works the best its from 3 to 5 am. Not a good hour tho,,,,, but believe me, at 3 pm my brain can't even speak english. you have your time, believe me, you just gotta find it (dont be like me, sleep)

10. Put on music that puts you in the mood.
It depends on what you're writing. I'm usually always listening to indie, but I have different groups for different tropes (fluff, angst, all that).

11. Your work is like a human body.
Okay this is sumn I came up long ago but basically the first think you write are the bones. You'll need to come back and put some organs, muscles, skin. Focus on writing first, you'll put on details later.

12. Get yourself a beta reader!
I don't have one because I only post the things I like. If I don't feel my work has a vibe, it will end forgotten in my drafts. If you're insecure, someone giving your opinion and pointing out at things and typos will be real help

13. Be friends.
Writers need to be friends. Obviously this doesn't apply to everyone but writes usually tend to hype each other a lot. Idk about pro writers but in the fanfiction community I've always felt super adored (thank you so much to my writer friends ilysm
)

13.5. You can point out the things your writer friend needs to improve, but never tell them x writer is better. In my case, it's totally like a punch on the throat. I repeat, no one is better than anyone.
14. About socmed aus
Search for good apps (ask for them, dont be shy), dont be like me. My first au was a mess bc I was impatient. Try them before starting the au, feel comfortable

15. Have patience
One of my biggest flaws is that I have no patience when it comes to writing and I'm always rushing things. That leads to a lot of typos and plotholes. Take your time, enjoy your ride, you'll miss the au when its over <\\\\3

16. I rec to start the au before posting it. At least work on the story for a few days, just in case a big idea comes to you in your dreams. That way you can change it.
Half of my aus were done in the way tho. It also depends on your imaginative power

17. The way the characters text will be what differentiates them. This part is always hard in my case, I feel all my characters text the same sjjwjs but you can add emojis, or memes or just caps or not. Be the character, think how would they text
18. Just update whenever you feel like.
I mean, I like updating every day not bc I'm impatient in this case but bc I'm reading my own story too and I just want to see it bloom. it took me 5 months to update my yungi au, still super cool. Don't think about that way too much

19. I'm a ghost reader. Honestly, it's because I'm so awkward and shy. The thing, readers are there even if you don't see them. I know likes are what motivate you, but you can also look into the tweet activities to see how many times people interacted with it <3
20. About side ships.
I like to put a lot of attention over them, idk why. That's up to you, I don't think it's a bad thing. Just write your story the way it makes you happy

21. Coming back to general
Write what you like, not what others want. I find comfortable writing about certain people when it comes to fanfiction. Don't ask me why, because I don't know. Trying to write sumn that doesn't make me happy will end up in tears.

don't cry. writing it's supposed to make you happy (haha), so just go for what makes you write for hours without noticing the sun is coming up and you've been in your room for 5 months without seeing your family and not what gives u an unnecessary headache
22. That also applies to the tags. You don't need to go over all of them. If you want to write fluff for the rest of your days, I will be gladly give you my angsty heart
23. Give yourself a cookie after finishing a fic. Or just, after writing for a day. You deserve it.
24. Finish things. Even if it takes years. Even if you don't share it. Maybe one day you come back and fall in love with that masterpiece (it happened to me 38922 times)
25. WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING
you see the ideas always come at me when I go to sleep or when I am dreaming, so im always filling my phone notes with things to add. I also carry a notebook to plot things. If you don't write it down, you will forget and that's really frustrating

26. Talk about prompts if you don't feel like writing. It's like writing but faster and with a beautiful anime opening playing at the background. I open my dms for you if you want to throw a prompt convo

27. Use your own experiences. It can be anything. In my case, I always put my feelings in the characters or some things that happens to me at uni (the reason all my characters are biologists, I am one haha)
28. Writing can also help to get rid of feelings you don't want. I don't have luck at love and for that my stories are always soft when it comes to romance. bc I'm the worst at it, I create a world where I am kind great. you can get rid of anything
29. As I also have some original works, I can share my experiences at that
30. If you write in first person, you're gonna need to put in both your character and the reader's shoes. Feel what your character feel and also find a way of making the reader related to that. kinda hard but if you read a lot, it will come out in the end
31. Design your characters first. I'm always doing characters files, and sometimes I have more fun creating them than actually writing. Once you know everything about them, start shaping the story around them.
32. This is just what I like but I love abstract descriptions. If you feel like pouring poetry as describing a flower field, do it. Bet there's a lot of people like me
33. Dialogues are okay (back to ff, I'm not a pro writer so I won't go that way). I mean, sometimes you can't describe every single thing. just let them talk. sometimes dialogues have strongs feelings than a long description about how they were in love with eo
34. Some tips about plots https://twitter.com/bubblesani/status/1264258843204255744?s=19
35. A thing I always try to do when I write socmed aus is find a plot that allow the characters to text a lot. I mean, if they're on the same room or are constantly seeing each other, that won't suit the socmed au (in my opinion)+
this is bc I don't feel it natural for two persons to interact over text if they're together. Example, I don't like writing sumn like "did you just kiss me?"..... that's not so socmed for me
36. If you feel like your characters can voice their thoughts a lot, that can also suit the socmed (you can use the twitter accs) if you're not good at describing feelings. Sometines writing about how someone is sad instead of describing the sadness feels easier
37. I said this already, but try it out first. Writing it will show you what makes you more comfortable. For me, sometimes I think it suits an au but then it gets kinda forced. If you keep trying a prompt and it doesn't work as socmed, maybe you should try writing it
38. I'm not good at this, but talking out with others can also help you to know if it fits one thing or another. You can talk with me if you want!
39. Short stories without deep plots are more suitable for aus, even when that doesn't mean deep stories aren't good for it (refer to my minsan au). I think it's a feeling, you will know once you start plotting more
40. If you want to write a chaptered fic, you can go two ways: the first one is focus on that fic only and write every day just so you get to finish it. As that can get a little stressful, posting the work chapter by chapter will help with the motivation you need to finish it
I said this bc the first chaptered fic I've ever finished was the one I posted chapter by chapter. That doesn't mean you will be fast though, it took me 6 months to write 11 chapters, but I finished it

41. How to punch writers block.
This is one of my worst enemies because every writer is a world and so it is the way we fall into this. When it gets hard, I just take a break from posting and try to find my way again.
This is one of my worst enemies because every writer is a world and so it is the way we fall into this. When it gets hard, I just take a break from posting and try to find my way again.
42. One way of doing it, is writing short stories only for myself. Force myself to write sumn even if it sucks, just to not lose the habit.
43. Reading always help. Dive deep into ao3 if you write fanfiction bc it always helps to get your fire back.
44. Don't stress
I know it sucks (I've been there) but stressing over the fact you can't write will make you write even less. Just breathe and give your brain a little time.

45. Try writing on paper instead of laptop/phone. It always helps me.
46. Don't give up. Last time I fell into writers block it took me 6 months to come back. And I think all that time without writing big things help me a little to get better.
47. Finally, once you stop caring about likes/followers, it gets funnier. Write because you like it

now, as Bob Ross said, as long you're learning, you're not failing <3 I hope these shitty advices help you, don't be shy on dming me to have writers talks!
