After a very sad post on Philip Rivers @J_Wegenka24 had a great idea about finding the best Philip Rivers 4th quarter comebacks. I decided to break it down a little further
When I looked at the Chargers biggest deficit during a game in Philip Rivers career I realized we needed to break the comebacks into two seperate parts. 1. The Chargers were down big during the game and 2. Rivers lead a late 4th quarter drive to win a close game
As we can see in the Picture above, the Chargers were able to pick up wins in a few games when they were down by two scores or more. However, like we did with Phils interceptions, lets see the time remaining in the game when they first hit that deficit
So here we can easily see the games in which the Chargers got down early and had to mount a comeback. The next factor we should look at is how low did the Chargers win percentage go in some of these games?
And we also look at the time that the Chargers reached that lowest WP in that game. This graph is much more fun
So in order to break this down I decided to take 10 games from when the Chargers win probability was really low, with not much time remaining (Close game comebacks) and then 10 games that had more than a 2 score deficit at any point, while also having a WP below .25 at any point
Here were the biggest deficit games
And here were the Closest comeback games
