#Iran in #Libya:

Regime supporters categorically deny any involvement 4 #Tehran in Libya let alone supporting #Haftar. They argue:
•Iran can’t support Haftar cz he is being supported by enemies
•Iran is closer 2 #GNA cz #Turkey & #Qatar involved.

My answer 2 these claims:

1) Main supporters of #Haftar r: #Russia, #Egypt, #UAE & #Assad regime. Two of them r allies of #Iran & the other two r not enemies. Egypt & UAE support Assad in Syria which means they have a lot in common. The fact that they & Assad support Haftar @ the same time is telling.

2) No, #Iran is not close to #GNA:
-GNA officials already criticizing Iran for supporting #Haftar
- #Tehran can’t support GNA even if it wants cz this means it will be fighting against #Assad and #Russia and this is senseless

3) #Assad did sign a deal with #Haftar last March that brings both into an active alliance. This can’t happen in spite of #Iran or against its will cz at the end of the day it will bring new liabilities for #Tehran in #Syria as Assad sends his men to support Haftar in #Libya

4) #Iran has a vital interest in prolonging the war in #Libya cz:
- This will keep most of the regional & int. powers busy.
- It twill serve as a good distraction away from Iran’s escalatory behavior recently in #Iraq, #Syria, #Yemen, and #Lebanon
- It will undermine #Turkey

5) Lately, #Iran is not happy seeing #Turkey’s role and influence increase in the region especially in #Syria. Turkey tends to ignore Iran and deal directly w #Russia. This humiliates Iran as it portrays it as an inferior or junior player. Iran wants to constrain Turkey v #Libya

6) #Tehran was very upset last March when #Anakra grilled its pro #IRGC militia members in #Idlib. It is not a coincidence that #Haftar made the deal w #Assad that month.
Moreover,many pro Assad fighters supporting Haftar r from the 4th division which is known w its links 2 Iran

7) More evidences are emerging on #Iran|ian made weapons iced by #Haftar’s militias. They consist of anti-tanks, drones, & ammunitaion. Iran can use #Libya 4 its illicit trade, money laundering & arms exports. They don’t have to come from Iran directly , #Assad is already there.

8) GNA interior minister accused #Assad regime recently of sending planes full of #Iran’s militia & ships full of drugs from #Latakia port in #Syria to #Benghazi port under control of #Haftar. One ship was seized lately. Guess who controls Latakia port in #Syria? It is the #IRGC
