Fun fact: my mom and I wholeheartedly believe my dad has been reincarnated as an owl. A thread: https://twitter.com/curtisremarc/status/1263558120590188546
So my dad died on April 5, 2011 in a car accident. I started college a month and a half later at Skegee. When I came home for spring break my freshman year, there was an owl sitting on our back deck. We’ve never seen an owl near our house EVER, and we’ve been here since 1999!
My mom got scared because she doesn’t like animals, I’m Dora the Explorer however, so I went outside just to get closer. The owl didn’t fly away, and eventually let me pet him. I’ve never seen an owl up until this point so I was in awe
So I run inside to get some food and water to feed him, and I beg my mom to come outside to see this amazing animal. She eventually comes, and as I’m feeding him out my hand, he flies over and sits on the sofa next to my mom, it was so strange!
We stay out there for like, 20 minutes just petting this owl lol. I just knew he was gonna leave, but he didn’t. It’s nighttime and dark by the time we go back inside. We wake up the next day and the owl is STILL ON THE BACK PORCH. Just waiting. It’s like he never left
Long story short, every year between March and April (March being the first time we see an owl on our deck back in 2012, April being the anniversary of my dad’s death), there’s ALWAYS one owl that comes to our back deck to spend the night. We’ve concluded it’s my dad.
Even after we screened the back deck in, an owl will come and post up on the stairs outside of the screen. It’s the strangest thing, but it’s also comforting. So in conclusion, I love owls 🦉🖤
