Holy shit. If you use April 11th, 1992 as the origins of k-pop (Seo Taiji and Boys's debut) then technically, k-pop as a genre is in the process of going through its first Saturn Return...
Now, this is with the assumption that whenever Saturn ingresses into the same sign as your natal Saturn, you can feel the Saturn Return. With this chart, the k-pop origin chart has a Saturn at 16 degrees Aquarius.
I think k-pop, especially this year, is starting to enter a crisis point in regards to their identity. This is with the fact that there's a lot of foreigners trying to enter the very competitive k-pop market. The biggest example I can think of is Kaachi right now.
There's been a lot of discussion of what exactly "k-pop" is. A lot of assumptions about k-pop has been questioned. Is k-pop just Korean pop? Do you have to be Korean to do k-pop? Do you have to speak Korean to do k-pop? What is k-pop, really?
Late 2003 (September 20th and onwards) was their first Jupiter Return. Around this time and a little into next year, Lee Hyori, DBSK, Epik High, and the Brown Eyed Girls made their debut. These artists are VERY highly credited for BEGINNING k-pop's popularity.
Late 2015 (September 4th and onwards) was their second Jupiter Return. Twice, G-Friend, Day6, Seventeen, and more groups made their debut at this point. A lot of these groups are currently being credited as the "new" prevailing k-pop generation.
Now, I can't talk about k-pop and astrology without PSY's Gangnam Style. Interestingly enough, when Gangnam Style released on July 15th 2012, the k-pop genre was going through a Jupiter square transit. I will definitely say that when PSY got viral, k-pop didn't know what to do.
PSY grew so fast that it kind of put k-pop in a strange, uncomfortable spot. Weirdly, if you consider Jupiter as the "humor" planet, common thought back in the day was that k-pop could only make it into the U.S. if you were funny like PSY was (example: Crayon Pop)
Then, BTS did what every k-pop group lowkey was trying to do for so many years - be successful in the U.S. in a serious, artistic light. Now, I don't know which date to use to highlight when they got so popular. But I'm looking at possible dates and hoping to see correlations.
So one date I picked was May 21st, 2017 because that was when BTS was the first k-pop group to win the Billboard Music Awards. Also. DNA is BTS's most popular music video and DNA was released on September 18th, 2017.
Now, when DNA came out, Mars and Mercury were conjunct the k-pop genre's natal Jupiter. Thought that was interesting.
When BTS won the Billboard Music Awards on May 21th 2017, I'll note that the transiting Venus was loosely conjunct the k-pop genre's natal Sun. But from just transits alone, I didn't find much (which REALLY makes me want to find the exact time of the k-pop genre chart)
