My final thoughts for now on Cummings
We have a prime minister who stands outside of Number 10 every Thursday clapping those frontline workers working to keep us safe, treat and care for us when we are ill or provide essential services
He thanks us all for following the rules
He praises us for doing 'our bit' to stop the spread of the virus
His senior advisor breaks those rules (I don't know/care if he claps or not)
The only question is: Will you sack him @BorisJohnson or are the rules only for us?
It is that simple
Everything else is a distraction
And if @BorisJohnson you are wondering what the fuss is about I will try to explain:
You told people not to visit their mothers on Mother Day - indeed you explained why you wouldn't
Others have been unable to attend the funerals of elderly relatives or loved ones
People have done as you asked and instructed
Often 'trapped' in crowded flats without gardens
They did the difficult stuff because you told them it was the right thing to do
Now I'm asking you to do the right thing - I understand it is difficult
I accept that you might see this as a political attack but it isn't
It is about doing the right thing
This bit is personal: I didn't vote for you but I have tried to be supportive and get behind your government's handling of the crisis, I have argued with close friends, I honestly thought you meant what you said
I still want to believe that your words weren't just puff
But in life as we all know, actions speak louder than words
