Are American Catholics aware that frequent communion was a rarity throughout much of the medieval period and was only reintroduced through the liturgical reforms of Pope St Pius X in the early 20th century? I want the Eucharist too, but not at the expense of peoples’ lives.
Those of us who think it’s wise to be cautious don’t have a lower conception of the Eucharist than others. I became Catholic largely because of the Church’s Eucharistic theology. And that theology is what roots my concern for others’ well-being.
We Catholics are not being persecuted in this country. I’m currently reading Tomáš Halík’s autobiography detailing oppression under a communist dictatorship. If you want to understand persecution, get some historical knowledge and perspective.
Anyhow, I’m happy to say that parishes here in Louisville are opening up slowly & cautiously, and it’s been rightly made clear that all are still dispensed from the Sunday obligation.
