On @PattiMurin's recent posts, together with other people involved (and all people who are involved in theatre); a thread
Patti expressed herself about not supporting bootlegs and it is truly understandable. For the people who are spreading hate to her, you don't have to hate a person for not supporting things you support, especially if it is illegal.
Bootlegs are illegal. Even if you say you don't care about law, it is still illegal and you can't do anything about that. However, I understand that it is the only way that other people can watch these amazing musicals/plays because of location, financial problems etc.
I support bootlegs because it is the only way I can watch theatre stuff which really helped me cope during hard times in life. However, supporting these doesn't make it right and legal, and it can never be justified to be a right thing to do.
As I've said, not everything you support should also be supported by others (at least in this case), and you should not be hating them for not doing so.
On Patti's post about Mental Health Awareness Month, which is clearly a way to spread positivity and a sharing thread about how people cope with their struggles, people seem to be mocking her by spamming bootlegs in the reply section.
Well, bootlegs have been my coping mechanism too and it really helped me a lot and I'm not invalidating those people who watch bootlegs to cope with their struggles too, but for what I can see, in the thread and in my timeline, this is clearly just mocking her about that matter.
For what I can see, people clearly are bullying her for her recent IG story which showed her hate towards bootlegs, but I still hope those who replied bootlegs are true, without any drop of mockery towards her. If they weren't I hope they stop because it is rude.
I just want to also point out that watching Broadway shows is not a right, but a privilege. It is for the people who can afford it. However, it would be nice if it will be more accessible to everyone who are theatre fans because the beauty of theatre should be spread!
Also, from a personal perspective, watching bootlegs found in the internet did not make me lose interest on watching it live on actual theatres and make me want to go save money for the shows I love to actually see it live.
I don't know what to say anymore, but please don't hate me for doing this thread just because I want to address something that is clearly toxic and rude, and also for supporting bootlegs. If you have concerns, you can dm me or reply to me here and I'd love a healthy discussion.
Hateful and negative replies would automatically be blocked even if I considered you a friend. I would appreciate if you bring up a topic connected to this thread and I would love to have a good and healthy discussion with you. Thank you.
