if u think rape is completely dependent of physical dominance - as you do clearly do - then ur delusional. the callous attitude that u have chosen to bring to twitter is ugly and all for what ? likes ? retweets ? girl no. please learn something before u speak on a subject https://twitter.com/riyahxvv/status/1263874156426399757
rape isn’t about who is physically strongest. domination can take emotional and psychological forms - for example, being guilted or coerced by a partner. rape is not always brute force. if it was, the physically strongest of us simply would not be raped.
rape would disproportionately affect the elderly, the infantile, the adolescent, the disabled, the ill, people whose ability to physically fight back is perhaps impaired. but in reality, rape affects all demographics, including those deemed the MOST able to ‘fight back’.
ages 12-34 are at the highest risk of sexual assault. those age 65 and older are 92% less likely than 12-24 year olds to be a victim of rape, and 83% less likely than 25-49 year olds. 1 out of every 10 rape victims is a male. (all statistics are from the RAINN non profit.)
clearly physical prowess isn’t the defining factor in the success of a rape attempt. this isn’t to say that the physical attack isn’t an important element, it certainly can be. but it’s incorrect to imply that somebody wouldn’t be raped if they were ‘strong’.
ur certainty that u would be able to stop a rape attempt is delusional at best and harmful at worst. you don’t know that u would be able to - nobody does. i hope u never have the chance to find out, i hope ur never put in that position.
ur attitude is harmful to rape and assault survivors because ur implies that their trauma could have been stopped if they’d only tried harder. do u think they wanted this to happen? that they wouldn’t have stopped it if they could ? really ?
the lucky ones can get away - kicking them in the face, screaming for help, calling the police. but the unlucky ones could not. they might have done everything exactly the same, and still been raped. because really, the fault of rape lies entirely with the rapist.
i would hope u would look at this thread, and the reaction u have received, and maybe think about what u say and why u think that way.
implying that the responsibility of stopping rape lies with the victim, that the only factor of rape is physical domination and that failure to stop the rape is a personal failure is irresponsible and damaging, and ur arrogance towards the matter is sickening.
