COVID-19 is highlighting the failures of a cruel and bloated system — policing

@agb4equity and I discuss in this piece and lift up resources and campaigns to invest in community, not police.

This THREAD shouts out those partners' amazing work.

If you haven't checked out @cresourcehub yet, you definitely should - they've done a lot in a year and are poised to support grassroots groups across the country. Honored to serve on its board.
And thank you @Christine_ScD, @ohmsbg, and everyone at @endpolviolence for authoring and advocating for the passage of the powerful APHA statement on police violence that we cite in the piece: https://www.apha.org/policies-and-advocacy/public-health-policy-statements/policy-database/2019/01/29/law-enforcement-violence
Was thrilled to work with and lift up the incredible @LiberateMke campaign that successfully divested $900 million from the Milwaukee Police Department for community investments.
Many of our partners in LA, including @PowerDignity, @stoplapdspying, @CoCoSouthLA and @YouthJusticeLA are in a similar fight RIGHT NOW. Find out how you can support here: https://peoplesbudgetla.com/
Have to share how lucky I feel to have worked with and learned from the legend @agb4equity for over seven years. Co-authoring with her, especially on an issue I feel so passionately about, is a career highlight.
Finally, we write about some of the ways @PolicyLink is working in coalition to dream and build a just, safe, and free world. Being in movement with so many (and growing) people and organizations has been incredibly uplifting and gives me hope that we will win. More to come.
