Should I be using a moisturizer? đŸ€” Short answer: Yes. I loved using oils in place of a moisturizer, but I realized my skin was still dehydrated. No matter how oily your skin is or how much oils you use, you could still use a moisturizer! Here’s why...
1. Moisturizers have something called occlusives and humectants, which together prevent TEWL, also known as transepidermal water loss 💧 This is basically the process in which moisture/water in the skin evaporates into the air around you, in return making your skin dry!
2. As we age, the skin’s ability to hold that moisture decreases, so it’s your job to help out your skin. Occlusives will provide that barrier for your skin to trap in the moisture and generally prevent environmental damage to your skin!
3. On the other hand, there are many people who say a moisturizer is not necessary. Dr. Zein Obagi, a Beverly Hills-based dermatologist, says that “A bit of moisturizer isn’t a bad thing, but it’s the thought process of the beauty industry that says to moisturize all the time,”.
4. “Dr. Obagi believes skin gets addicted to replacement moisture and stops supplying its own hydration from within the body. And your natural hydration, he says, is what really keeps skin healthy and young.” 😹 (refinery29)
5. (END OF THREAD) So... is moisturizer absolutely necessary? No. Would I recommend it? Yes, in appropriate amounts and the right ones for your skin type with HEALTHY ingredients! 😉
