A lot of doom and gloom around the new study about our coastline. It is alarming, as we know. But it’s not the end. We ARE doing everything we can to postpone the inevitable. Know some facts before you pack up your shrimp boots and watch the ship go down.
We are doing coastal restoration work EVERY DAY. We are even gaining a bit of land in places with dredging work. We’re building oyster reefs that help reduce wave energy and fortify our wetlands. Studies like these come out and it’s always alarming because yes it is inevitable.
BUT there is hope. We’re working around the clock doing everything we can to postpone this. One reason for these studies to come out is to help us find out what’s working, what’s not working and they help us get federal funding to continue our efforts.
We need more community outreach about our current efforts and future efforts b/c it’s not just scientists doing this work. Everyone can do something to help save our wetlands. A fantastic organization, Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana @CRCL1988 is a great place to start.
So idk. You may not see the work that’s constantly being done, but it’s happening. Don’t throw in the towel. Because we’re not.
I’ll add @restorecouncil here too, I’ve worked under them for a couple of years. They’re also an organization that’s doing amazing work on the front lines.
