1. Welcome to today's edition of the Daily White House shadow briefing. Real reporters questions but the answers have a twist...they're the truth not riddled with lies, misstatements and sophomoric spin that wouldn't convince even a Freshmen. So let's get right to it
2. President Trump came out today and said I'm calling on the Governors to open churches and places of worship right now. Dr. Birx just said in area where they have high cases of Covid-19 maybe the should think about waiting week. So which is it? Why the mixed messages.
3. A. Well your fundamentally dishonest as the President is, you don't have to choose. You can hold two opposite views at the same time without hesitation. But in this case we think it's good politics for the President to be the bad cop and the rest of us being the good cop.
4. You know the President has shirked all responsibility on Covid-19 from the beginning. He's left it all to the Governors. He frankly doesn't care what they do and if people go to church. He only goes occasionally for the photo op. But he wants to be seen as a tough guy who
5. heathen governors. Q/ The President said he was going to overrule the governors. Under what authority would he do that? A. He has no authority or real interest as I've said. He wants to set up a fake fight that makes him look tough even if it risks lives. He's not
6. particularly troubled by the 95k we've lost, a few more in church he sees as kind of faith based efficiency. Q He said several weeks ago it was all up to the Governors. A. It is all up to the governors. Sure the President has levers he can use but he wants a state to defy
7. so he'll have something to rage tweet about on Sunday. Pro-tip here, everything is about him and his politics. Reality rarely is in the same time zone. Q. Under what authority would he be using? A. Maybe God has signed an executive order or something, beats me.
8. Does the WH support these churches who are defying their governors and opening up? A. The President loves it. Remember he's the no responsibility President, he loves to stir up a fight, stand on the sidelines, and watch governors deal with these problems. It's really unhelpful
9. it's cost lives, but it's exactly the way he wants it. It's the Bart Simpson presidency --it was like this when I got here. Don't blame me. Q. If the Governors don't allow the churches to open will the WH support the one's who are defying the order. A. Of course they will.
10. But let's look at what we're doing here. The President gets to pick a fight, we get to seem reasonable and quote our guidelines a few million times even though you can not square that circle You can't be with the President and with the guidelines. And the President's betting
11. it will be way easier to just cover the fight than explain his twisted logic. Yes it's dishonest, but so is the President. Q. What authority does the President have here. A. He has the power to lie, cheat, steal and twist the truth as sort of the given faith of his family.
12. And just in case one fight isn't enough, I'm going to with a sanctimonious voice accuse you all of being Godless heathens and fake church goers. Q. I object to that. I go to church and I'm dying to go back to church. The question we're asking of you and we wanted to ask the
13 President and Dr. Birx is it safe and if it's not safe does the President agree with Dr. Birx that people should wait a week. A. Let me try to clearer. The President doesn't give a shit whether you go to church, even fake church. He only wants to create a fake fight that he
14. thinks is good policy. Just as he doesn't care if people go to church, he equally doesn't care if it's safe. What he cares about is getting elected. That's it. Does that clarify? Q. We celebrate that too but were not asking if people are allowed to go to church or can
15. Americans pray. A. We're beating a dead horse here. Let's do something different here. The White House asks the questions. So let's go to the back of the room to my colleague at OANN. Oh it's about Obama, well I just happen to have a power point ready because I think you're
16. stupid. Sorry Kristen, I know we both went to Harvard. Now I'm going to end my worst briefing to date by storming off a little early. In fact I took questions on only 2 subjects, one I refused to answer because the two things can't be reconciled and so I just looked comical
17 and on the other I asked a WH staffer from OANN to ask a question. Pretty much of a disaster all around. All I did was clarify the strategy and the lying. Well at least I did something. I hope it rains on your Memorial Day.
