Please don't overlook this Twitter thread.

There are lives on the line and the city of Oakland needs to listen.

Leadership: PLEASE house the homeless community of 37MLK. Elders, people of color, disabled folks are about to be back on the streets during a health emergency.
One of the activists behind the homeless encampment 37 MLK has sounded the alarm. This vulnerable community has run out of funds to stay in motels during the COVID-19 outbreak.

She is asking for help: https://www.facebook.com/stefani.dixon/videos/10102900629043050/
But when one of the residents contracted COVID-19, it devastated that community. Funds were raised to keep them in a nearby motel, but those funds have now evaporated.

The city has a RESPONSIBILITY and a MORAL OBLIGATION to protect these residents. Otherwise, they will DIE.
This community is like family to one another. They have seen each other through devastation. They are the heart and soul of that neighborhood.

@Oakland, how can you justify abandoning them at a time when you declared COVID-19 a health emergency for Black residents?
They've tried to work within the system. They've tried to work with leadership to keep themselves safe.

Yet this bureaucratic maze has failed to protect them.

Stefani has now locked herself to the motel where they are staying in a desperate attempt to get the city to listen.
NO ONE should have to risk their own life during a deadly pandemic to get their city government to listen to them, to protect them, and to care about their wellbeing.

@LibbySchaaf, are homeless and vulnerable residents disposable? What will you do here?
COVID-19 is a deadly disease, even more so for the residents of 37MLK who have countless risk factors and little to no access to comprehensive health care.

Their lives are on the line. The city needs to do something and it needs to do it NOW.
If this appears on your Twitter feed, please boost this. They have mere hours before they will be left with no other options.

Even if you unshare it later on, we need eyes on this right now.

Please help this community. They deserve so much better than this.
