We have cringe moments and times in our faith journeys. None of us come to the faith fully formed in Christ. Salvation and holiness is a long road filled with pitfalls and snares. If we truly think we’re “finished” after we are received into the Church, or if we allowed our 1/
faith become more centered in our lives, then we are missing the point of the “call to holiness”. The holy women and men who are called saints knew this intimately. Struggle and liberation is the lot of the Christian life. Faith provides comfort and hope, but it’s a challenge.2/2
Maybe in a previous epoch or age, culture and society made things easier (I don’t honestly believe that), but in whatever time and space we live in, the Christian still is called to proclaim the Gospel. Sometimes that meant rebuilding society from the ground up and 3/4
sometimes it means living in a culture that is truly not “Christian” and offering a “hospital” where we can accompany and encounter the culture around us. It’s a narrow path, the road of Mercy that we all, I think, have to walk now. 4/4
