This is good advice but it’s true only to a certain degree. It’s too idealistic because life isn’t this simple.

Yes, don’t waste time or your parent’s money and always do YOUR best. But understand that there are no guarantees in life and no timetable you HAVE to adhere to. https://twitter.com/Nandi_Madida/status/1263842424566288384
There are people who are fortunate to know their life’s calling or purpose early and have all the resources to pursue their goals.

There are people who don’t figure out what they’re called for until later. Some think they know early but get to varsity and realize they’re lost.
Life isn’t as simple as we’d LIKE it to be.

Nandi is right when she says don’t waste your time or your parent’s money. And also avoid hanging around the wrong crowd.

But you can do all the right things in life and get to 30 or 50 or 70 having not have achieved your goals.
Always do your best, ALWAYS, but know that life has no timetable.

Unless you set age goals for yourself (you want to do that or have this by that age) there is absolutely NOTHING you MUST have done at any specific age.

Life is a marathon and not a race. Go at your own pace.
I get that this advice comes from a good place with good intentions, but knowing what I know now at my age, such advice could really be harmful to a young person who’s still trying to find their way.

It can really make them feel like a failure.
Not all of us are fortunate enough to walk “straight paths” in life.

It takes a little bit longer for some people to find their “thing”. All our journeys are valid though.
Children have the responsibility of knowing what they want to do for the rest of their lives.

By the time you finish matric (at 17 or 18) you must already know what job you want to do 40 hours a week for the next 40 years.

We don’t talk about how much pressure this is.
Some children JUST know. Some have no clue. Some think they know and when they get to university they realize they hate the course they chose. Then they have to start all over again.

It’s a lot of pressure.
Some people follow all the rules, never hang around the wrong crowd, do well at school and at university, but end up struggling to find employment.

So they reach 30 with “nothing to show for it.”

And such statements could really break someone’s spirit. 😕
