here's a thread of legacies s1 female characters being flawed, but it doesnt mean they're toxic, let's go

disclaimer: this thread wasnt made to hate on the characters but the opposite, im simply tired of people calling one character toxic and ignoring the rest's actions.

let's start with penelope, she fatshamed lizzie and was insensitive towards her bipolar disorder by treating it like it was a burden, and was smug about the twins' parents being neglectful.

she finds lizzie's episodes entertaining and also invaded the school's privacy by reading their journals

and while i dont agree about it being something bad but others claim it is so i thought i would put it here for the sake of this thread. she left the school when josie needed her the most, which apparently is a selfish move.

now, the thing some of you dont seem to understand is that penelope is a teenager who learned that her girlfriend might die in 6 years, and while her ways were questionable her intentions were purely good.

she broke josie's heart thats right, but you cant ignore the fact that josie put lizzie above anyone else including above her own relationship which might have been a big reason for their breakup, and the merge might've played a part in it as well.

besides breakups happen in real life, but it doesnt mean it makes you an evil person. her being insensitive towards lizzie has no excuse, but their hatred for each other is mutual, and while i dont justify her harmful comments i also dont think it makes her a bad person.

same thing goes for reading everyone's journals, it has no excuse and it was wrong no matter what the cause was for, but making mistakes as a 16 years old is a part of life and this is how you grow for the better.

and her leaving the school might seem selfish for most of you, but she had to take care of herself as well, and the school wasnt the best place for her. josie might've needed her but she didnt show any signs of it, so how could she know?

lizzie saltzman.
she fatshamed a bunch of girls, acted selfishly towards josie many times during 1, for example refering to their party as her own, and not considering if josie wanted to join the concuil. she was mean towards students for no reason and wanted hope to be dead

she made a joke about an eating disorder, and made fun of penelope's absence in class by giving false information, and also threw josie under the bus when it was her fault as well.

and like i said before, lizzie is a teenager as well and shes learning and growing from her past mistakes. ofc insensitive jokes cannot be excused but i think its a defense machanism of her being provoked by the school's students while growing up, just because she was different

and now shes probably projecting it on other students because she doesnt want them to think they can break her that easily, and because she sees them as a threat.

her being selfish with josie was only partly her fault, because co-dependency takes 2, and sometimes josie did not act up on what she wanted because she was too afraid to confront lizzie, but how could lizzie know it if josie never talked about it?

her wanting hope dead is obviously not a good thing, but as the show moved on you could've seen the reason for it, which was mainly for 2 reasons. one, josie's rumors about hope shaming lizzie, and two, hope is getting all of alaric's attention. so she was obviously threatened

josie saltzman. she burned penelope and could've actually caused her physical harm, and made a girl bleed all because of her jealousy. she treats lizzie's mental illness lightly and underestimated wade's abilities in the game bc of his looks

she blamed lizzie for having an episode because she didnt took meds, spread rumors about hope and burned her room because of her crush, and was mean towards hope for no other reason but jealousy.

josie made a lot of mistakes, but as you can see most of them were caused by her insecurity, which i believe that is rooted by her co-dependency and by living with neglectful parents who dont actually pay attention to her

her insecurity makes her be a jealous person, shes threatened by other's taking what's supposed to be hers and it makes her do reckless things such as physical harm and mean attitude, even if she has no reason to be jealous

her being insensitive towards lizzie is something that once again, cannot be excused or justified, because mental illness isnt a light subject, but i do hope she will grow past it and learn from her past mistakes, because then again shes still young...

well for hope i couldnt really find anything cause all she does is cry over landon or fight monsters so yeah...

anyways in conclusion, all of them are flawed but yall need to remember that 1. the writing sucks, its still legacies and 2. theyre all very young and will learn for the better and grow tf up. none of them are toxic for simply being teenagers and you all need to understand it
