a lot of y’all have really dumb takes on the whole ~gifted kid~ thing and that’s why we have this stupid goddamn discourse every month.
people who were labeled “gifted” in school talking about the way that label ultimately led them down a destructive path isn’t inherently invalidating to people who were told they were lesser because they weren’t labeled gifted.
people who weren’t labeled gifted talking about how that comparison damaged them and led them down a destructive path isn’t inherently invalidating people who were damaged by being labeled gifted.
y’all are so desperate to paint this as some kind of “who had it worse” when literally all you have to do is go “hey, maybe arbitrarily separating students based on perceived intelligence is really bad for everyone involved”.
being given that stupid label exposed me to some of the worst ableism outside my home i’ve ever experienced in real life. not being given that label had the same effect for other kids i knew. this thread could go on forever. the point is, the enemy is the school system...
...not people who speak out about their experiences. and you’re a hack if you try to make it about “labeled gifted vs not labeled gifted” and not about “hey maybe schools shouldn’t be doing this”.
