Fun fact, that Gerd Janson party was listed as an event on RAs site. It's surprising to me, given how little is going on in dance music(tm) right now that the event wouldn't have caught someone's attention. Right?
A Gerd Janson headlined publicly listed event in the midst of a pandemic inside a nightclub with ticketed party-goers didn't even catch an eye? That's surprising, given that their business is entirely reliant on ticket sales and party promotion.
Cynically, and of course, I'm not a cynic, you could argue that RA knew about the event and chose to not cover it. Because if they'd covered it, it could've received negative press and attention, causing it to not go ahead. By only covering it once it had occurred you can frame
the entire narrative, provide it positive coverage, and then there's the bit that really struck me right away reading the article. It's all the numbers. All the information you might need as a promoter to start thinking about how to put on your own event.
Cynically, and again, absolutely not a cynic here, but that article by RA is basically a template for promoters: down to the cut in DJ fee percentage, tips for club structuring/architecture, rules etc. What it lacked was any sort of critical engagement with what was being done.
Community is a word often used, rarely in a way that adequately reflects the concepts inherent to it, in the world of dance music. At it's very least, community should be about making sure the decisions we make cause the least amount of harm to others in our worlds.
By setting this into motion, RA says, the sooner we get back to "normal" the better, even if that endangers the health and well-being of others. Seems like a terribly unsafe space to be in, but here we are.
