Here's a thought: Why don't university administrators actually poll students, faculty and staff and ask: "Under what conditions would you feel safe returning to campus for in-person classes?"
I mean, setting aside the obvious and urgent need for us to know how community members feel about the risks associated with teaching and learning during an ongoing pandemic, there are common sense business reasons for administrators to know the answer to this question.
Polling is not my idea, by the way. But it's something I think needs to be addressed across the higher education landscape right now..
Faculty and staff unions need this information, too.. How can we advocate for colleagues if we do not systematically assess their views?
