As we stare down the least appealing election of my adult life, I can’t help but think about how it doesn’t even matter anyway. The electoral college he already written off 90% of our votes. An antiquated system meant to appease land/slave owners is used to disenfranchise.
Instead of concentrating our hot takes on which gaffe either of the geriatric sundowning candidates make, our energy would be so much better served discussing the multitude of systemic problems that could actually result in tangible progress.
I don’t mean to both sides the issue, because it’s clear to anyone paying attention that Republicans have either acted in bad faith or outright embraced things like citizen’s united, voter suppression, and maintaining the electoral college. All in a cynical bid to retain power.
If you desire to focus on any elections/candidates then make it local where your vote can help create actual change (unless you live in one of the about 7 states that will pick our president), and help to build from the ground up an actual government for the people
There you guys go. My very own hot take. None of which is particularly original or groundbreaking, but hopefully instead of some dumb ploy to show you how smug and superior I am, some people might view their approach to politics a little differently.
Addendum: Once again, I’m not saying this election doesn’t have important ramifications, it does. What I am saying is that for you as a voter, unless you live in a purple state, it is not where you’re political energy should go, until these other issues are addressed
