saying that bi/pan people cannot label themselves as lesbians is not "policing" or "gatekeeping", we have completely different experiences and identities, and this language is really harmful to actual lesbians! the majority of violence against lesbians is caused not by their
attraction to women, but their NON-ATTRACTION to men. corrective rape is intended to “fix” lesbians for being romantically and sexually unavailable to men. the word dyke stems from men’s anger that we’re not romantically or sexually available to them, so we are not USEFUL.
it’s a word intended to degrade lesbians because our non-attraction to men makes them ANGRY. bi/pan lesbians are not lesbians. they are bi/pan. outside of the obvious harm of invading lesbian spaces and talking over us, never listening to us, and acting like the authority on
lesbianism, when we already feel so excluded and erased from the LGBT community in so many ways, there’s also the harm of normalizing lesbians being attracted to men!!!! men literally harass lesbians and excuse it by saying “i thought you were one of those bi lesbians”
it promotes the idea that there are exceptions to lesbianism, and that the right man !! can turn us !! there’s a reason the label lesbian exists. and there’s a reason the labels bi and pan exist. bi/pan is NOT a dirty word. if you are attracted to one man, even if you are mainly
attracted to women, you are bi with a lean towards women? every bi person experiences different levels of attraction to different genders! it’s not an excuse to be lesophobic AND biphobic. you are demonizing lesbians by accusing us of policing for USING OUR OWN LABEL. STOP.
