Welcome back to #Fuck12Friday! This week we've been reflecting on the issue of being Black and home.
Breonna Taylor's murder is a regular tragedy - people are killed and abused in their homes by police w/ state permission. Breonna's story is one of the few that has reached the mainstream. #Fuck12Friday
Breonna Taylor was murdered in her home by two plain clothes officers acting under a no-knock warrant in search of drugs that were not there and someone who had been arrested elsewhere. #Fuck12Friday
When her boyfriend, Walker, under the rightful explanation that burglars had entered his home, took out the gun that he legally owned and shot at one of them. They countered w/ 20+ rounds, 8 of which struck and killed Breonna. #Fuck12Friday
No-knock & quick knock warrants became a regular thing during the war on drugs in the 80s after officers whined that knocking before a raid gave those inside a chance to destroy evidence or retaliate violently. Raids surged from 3,000 in '81 - 60,000 annually. #Fuck12Friday
"In many cities, it’s rare for a judge to deny an officer’s request for a no-knock warrant, partly because it’s easy to argue a suspect will be dangerous when you consider that 4 in 10 American adults live in a home with a gun." https://bit.ly/2LPXWJf  #Fuck12Friday
The ACLU found that of all the people in the country affected by SWAT raids, 42% of them were Black. Quick reminder that we only make up 14% of the population. #Fuck12Friday
In Detroit, 7-year-old Aiyanna Stanley-Jones was shot and killed when SWAT burst into her family's home where she was sleeping on the couch next to her grandmother. https://bit.ly/2WRLVcu  #Fuck12Friday
Home is supposed to be the place you feel safe and protected. That first responders can enter your home w/o consent, murder you, and walk away scot free is outrageous, insulting and proof that our lives are not valued by the system. #Fuck12Friday
"Preckwinkle warned, “I don't see how anyone who understands the endemic nature of racism in this country, and the discrimination that black and brown people have experienced, will assume that this resolution is somehow going to be immune from that discrimination.” #Fuck12Friday
Chris Wade, Black Peoria resident wrote to the board, “Passing this Resolution invites a new metric of fear and will augment the harm that Black and Latinx communities experience." #Fuck12Friday
Though County Commissioner Britton promised past government abuse could not happen under this measure w/ the limitations like only sharing addresses, what this actually means is more free reign for police. #Fuck12Friday
W/ the excuse that they were only given addresses, no names, there will be more Breonna Taylors and Aiyannas and the countless Black and brown Chicagoans that have experienced the criminalization of their health, race, and income. #Fuck12Friday
This could stop people from seeking medical care or get tested because of fear of police abuse. Many COVID cases are asymptomatic or unconfirmed--only exercising caution around confirmed cases would be dangerous.

“The public’s privacy rights and the health privacy rights especially are some of the strongest rights under the constitution and the laws of the United States and Illinois,” Demacopoulos said at the time. “Once that data is exposed, there is no taking it back.” #Fuck12Friday
Not only do we have to fight for our freedom, we have to be ready to fight what is coming. If you're looking for a movement home, please reach out to [email protected]. #Fuck12Friday
