Idle thoughts watching Game 1 of 1980 @Royals- @Phillies WS:
>This features two of best 3rd basemen ever in Schmidt & Brett.
>Amos Otis was really underrated.
>Willie Mays Aikens...oh, what might’ve been.
>There was a ton of speed on the field (running, not greenies.
(Continued)
>There was a lot of bad hair in 1980.
>Kubek & Garagiola are making me nostalgic.
>Those powder blue unis are sweet.
>Astroturf encouraged beating down on the ball.
>See above with Bake McBride, Garry Maddox & Willie Wilson.
>Larry Gura was an artist.
>Steve Carlton was filthy.
>Pete Rose got more out of his natural ability than any athlete in history.
>Garagiola fascinated by carbohydrate loading, which he didn’t know he was doing growing up on the Hill in StL.
>Veterans Stadium is a dump.
>Willie Wilson is one of the fastest baseball players ever.
>Hard to imagine two cooler Royals fans than @SlaterMoJoe & @djpaulrudd.
>Can’t see Marty Pattin without thinking of Jim Bouton referencing his Donald Duck impersonation.
>There were a lot more black players in @MLB forty years ago.
>The Boone family has churned out some players.
>Frank White seems like a class act.
>Fred Patek was tiny. Peter Dinklage tiny.
>I wonder if Greg Luzinski remembers us heckling him.
>Kubek just accused Carlton of doctoring the ball.
>He should know, as Whitey Ford did it all the time.
>Willie Wilson on a football field? Whoa.
>Has there been anyone more famous killed by Mesothelioma than Steve McQueen?
>The Royals average weight per player has got to be 170 lbs.
>Garagiola just cautioned youngsters to not use those dangerous toothpicks during the game like U.L. Washington. Hear that, @Titleist445?
>If he played today, U.L. Washington would have an endorsement deal with Underwriter Laboratories if they in fact still exist.
> @PeteRose_14 and @JimmyConnors used the same barber.
>I hate AstroTurf.
> I’m not sure about Amos Otis’ mustache.
>Wondering how George Brett did vs Ken
>Tom Seaver in the booth. I hate to hear he’s not doing well now.
>Would love to hear Manager Lou Brown say, “You may run like Mays, but you hit like Aikens.”
>I miss baseball.

The at-bat and eventual bunt by Pete Rose in Game 6 of the 1980 WS was just a joy to watch. They knew it was coming...on rock-hard AstroTurf...and he still bunts for a base hit. Not many who ever lived could handle a bat better.
