Having just completed his overhaul of the Community Reinvestment Act (and settled his personal score with the landmark civil rights law), Comptroller of the Currency Joseph Otting is stepping down

Taking his place is @BrianBrooksOCC who joined OCC just 2 months ago

(1/6)
Brooks, the former Chief Legal Officer at Coinbase AND the former Vice Chairman for Steven Mnuchin and Joseph Otting’s nightmarish foreclosure machine, OneWest, seems set to make national bank charters for fintech firms a priority

(2/6)
That would, of course, benefit his previous employer, Coinbase.

So far, Brooks is doing shockingly little to disentangle himself from the crypto exchange

(3/6)
When he joined OCC, Brooks appears to have changed his twitter handle from @BrianBrooksCB (as in Coinbase) to @BrianBrooksOCC.

He has not, however, removed any of his old tweets

(4/6)
That means Brooks, in what appears to be his official capacity - he used this account to thank Sec. Mnuchin and CFTC Chair Tarbert for their congrats at his new job - is boosting the interviews he gave, conferences he attended, and views he expressed while at Coinbase

(5/6)
What other entanglements does he maintain? Has his decision to boost Coinbase from his new OCC-affiliated account inflated his fortunes? We don’t know because his financial disclosures have not been released, although you can be sure we’ll be seeking them from OCC via FOIA
