How did this disorganized genius become one of the most effective California politicians in history? How does Jerry Brown reconcile so many opposites? A new biography examines his life, but Brown appears to be saving his full testament for St. Peter. https://www.sacbee.com/opinion/article242915571.html
For those interested in Brown, used copies of earlier biographies can be very cheaply had these days. I read most of them back in the day and revisited them after reading "Man of Tomorrow: The Relentless life of Jerry Brown" by Jim Newton. https://www.littlebrown.com/titles/jim-newton/man-of-tomorrow/9781478964186/
"The Man on the White Horse” (1978): Before “The Devil Wears Prada,” there was this gem by J.D. Lorenz. Anyone who has fantasized about writing a venomous tell-all book about a bad boss will enjoy this bitter polemic against young Gov. Brown. https://www.abebooks.com/signed-first-edition/Jerry-Brown-Man-White-Horse-Lorenz/22804250615/bd
“Jerry Brown: The Philosopher-Prince” by Robert Pack (1978) contains my favorite sentence from any book about Brown. Pack thought Jerry might beat Carter in ‘80, but another CA governor did that.
In “Brown” by Orville Schell (1978), Jerry appears to predict he may someday run for offices below the level of governor. And he went on to become mayor of Oakland 20 years later, followed by attorney general.
