When more people voting is bad for you, the autocratic solution is to make voting more difficult. When that is not enough, the real message becomes that democracy is bad, period. That it's corrupt, chaos, mob rule.
Trump's lies about voter fraud and other attacks on the integrity of the 2016 election were perhaps his most dangerous offense of so many. The current attacks on vote-by-mail are on the same theme. Contempt for voters, for democracy.
It isn't enough for autocrats & their gang to feel above the people. They must convince their followers of the same thing, that they are unworthy of self-government, and to obey the leader blindly.
Prove them wrong. Show them than American democracy is still alive, if not yet well! Vote them out, every one of them. Vote by any means necessary. Then stay involved, reform and build. 2020 must be the beginning, not the end.
Around 40% of Americans *chose* not to vote in 2016, a catastrophic abdication of basic citizenship in a democracy. Yes, it's your right not to vote, but discrediting the value of the ballot only helps those who are trying to subvert and suppress.
