So I decided to do something a little outside of my comfort zone, and I encourage you all to try it, too! I’m gonna try to tweet at least one thing—possibly multiple things!—I love about myself every day. Quoth Paramore, “Fall in love with yourself.” You know? Here goes:
1. I love how enthusiastic I am. About books and music and shows and friends and family and cool people who don’t even know who I am. I’ve sent at least two lengthy “Hi, I love your book because of X, Y, and Z” messages in the past week alone—one to a friend, one to a stranger.
2. I love that I’m kind regardless of whether people are kind back. I’m not a doormat, to be clear, but I’ve also mistakenly said one too many things I can’t take back over the years, so now my default is, like, “Be honest and also make sure you can sleep just fine at night.”
3. I love that my love language is words of affirmation, and how I’m shy and/or anxious about practically everything except telling people how I feel about them. If I like you, you’re going to know it, my friend.
4. I can be really funny when I’m not making a point of trying to be? When I try to be, it feels more hit-or-miss. When I’m telling my stepsister the citrus she wants to eat looks old by saying “Sorry to this mandarin,” it’s often great (EVEN THOUGH SHE DIDN’T LAUGH AT THAT ONE).
5. I’m an excellent friend. I feel antsy writing that without saying, like, “I try my best to be an excellent friend!”—but this thread is about self-love, and I’m a thoughtful, empathetic, fun friend to have, dammit. There’s a reason “friend” is the second thing in my bio!
