Ending my first week back with @BuzzFeedNews and thrilled for what’s to come. Many new plans in store, but one I’m most excited about is the creation of new desks and beats.

The “Inequality” desk will expose stories of race and racism, gender and sexism, as well as other structural forces like debt, isolation, the gig economy, and labor organizing. Inequality will focus not only on the poor, but on the rich and powerful, and the actions they take.

The new “Rapid Enterprise” desk will take ambitious swings on fast-moving, hypercompetitive news stories — from science to education to politics to whatever breaking story we can’t yet imagine. The desk will enable collaboration and coordination across the newsroom.

Our refocused “Government” desk will go inside federal agencies of concern to our readers looking for corruption and abuse of power. They’ll also report on people in Trump’s orbit, his lawyers, fixers, and others.

The new desks — alongside our killer breaking, politics, science, culture, investigations, and tech teams — enable @BuzzFeedNews to produce even more explosive journalism that helps our readers make sense of our shifting world and their own identity.
