"daechwita" is an Agust D masterpiece in the vein of "so far away" and "the last," even though it sounds nothing like them. starting each of these songs is like entering an entirely new world sonically; the production is tailored precisely to the needs and mood of the track. 1/
the claustrophobic "the last" begins with AD's numb-sounding drawl, which he gradually builds into the vocal equivalent of a screaming hurricane. "so far away" captures deep pain and optimism w/ soaring guitar solos that wrap around the tender verses & chorus like an embrace. 2/
"daechwita" is a perfectly choreographed bloodbath, one where the focus is squarely on the beat & on the rapping.
it's a spiritual successor to "AD" & "give it to me"; artistically, it's an evolutionary leap forward—it's no longer a warning shot, but a revised manifesto. 3/
some of my very favorite bangtan-related songs incorporate traditional korean instrumentation/wordplay in singular ways: "ddaeng," "paldogangsan," "idol," + others, and now "daechwita" joins the list. (also admiring the absolute flex of posting the MV on youtube as '대취타.') 4/
those are my small thoughts for now, but please go read and enjoy all the excellent analysis and translation work being done out there. now back to streaming. 5/
