As a longtime Chargers fan, I decided to go on a journey to find Philip Rivers most destructive interception from his long career filled with many soul crushing picks. Lets start by looking at the EPA impact of all of his Career Picks
As we can see right away, there are some INTs that were extremelyyyy impactful on the Chargers total EPA. However lets try and add some context to them. Here is the Win Probability at the time of every single one of those interceptions
As we can see, there is an interception in the bottom right with a pretty bad EPA. So this should be the one right? Well not exactly, we can see this INT actually occurred in the 2nd quarter of a 2007 game against the Raiders (the Chargers won the game 28-14)
So while that was a brutal INT it wasnt exactly crushing. For an INT to be truly destructive it would most likely have to occur in the 4th quarter in a relatively close game. So lets look at all of Phils interceptions in the 4th Quarter and see the ones that immediately stand out
Now we need to see, what was the impact of that INT on the Chargers chances of winning the game? Using this there is only one answer to what is the most crushing Philip Rivers interception of all time
The Chargers tied 24-24 against the Miami Dolphins in 2016, with a 4-5 record at the time, have the opportunity to march down the field and get to .500 going into their bye week
And then Phil does this . The Chargers lose the game and dropped to 4-6, going on to finish the season at 5-11
I do want to make a case for another Interception on here, 2012 week 6 when the Chargers blew a 24-0 lead against the Manning led Broncos, throwing this pick 6 to give the Broncos a 35-24 lead and ultimately the win
