Tom Wine: I want to offer my sincerest condolences to Tamika Palmer, the mother of Breonna Taylor. "I do not know what it's like to lose a child. ... I am sorry, Ms. Palmer, that you lost your daughter."

Glad to see city officials are reviewing policy on serving warrants.
Wine: "But for the fast action" of police officers, Sgt. Mattingly could have died. His femoral artery was pierced. But for his wallet, "his injury could have been fatal."

"His injury was not the result of friendly fire."
Eggert claims Wine's office failed to paint a complete picture to the grand jury that charged Kenneth Walker, Breonna Taylor's boyfriend.

Wine says his office strongly disagrees: "There was no misleading testimony ... nor was there any ethical breaches."
Wine calls for the case against Walker to be dismissed. "I believe that additional investigation is necessary," he says.
Now Wine is playing a clip of Walker explaining what happened in the early morning hours of March 13.

"There's a loud bang at the door." Scared both of them. Thought it was another man. Another knock. She calls, "Who is it?" No response. "I'm scared to death," Walker says.
Walker: When we get out of the bed, walking towards the door, the door "comes off the hinges." I let off one shot -- "still can't see who it is," Walker says. Then there's a whole lot of shots. We both fell to the ground.
Walker: I'm yelling help, she's right here bleeding and nobody's coming. I'm just confused and scared. I feel the same right now.

(I couldn't type fast enough to type that whole recording)
Wine: They got dressed, went out the bedroom and into the hallway. He also says maybe he couldn't hear the police. Maybe he couldn't hear them on the other side of the door.

Second recording of Walker coming.
Walker is asked by someone how many bangs they heard. He says he got some clothes on, they called out "who is it?" once, trying to get decent to answer the door.

After second loud bang, I grabbed a gun. We start walking to door to go see who it is. Then, door starts coming in.
"As we're coming to the door, the door comes off the hinges. You can't see anybody, though. It happened fast. It was like an explosion. Then, boom, one shot. Then there's a lot." Says he heard Taylor "screaming."

Walker says his shot was like a "warning shot" near the ground.
Walker: "I feel like I aimed down. I don't need to kill anybody, if I could just get you out of here, just by you hearing that."
Wine: We know there were a series of loud knocks and they both had an opportunity to get dressed to see who was there.

Another piece of misinformation, he says, is that Walker called 911 when there was an attempted entry. "That's not what happened," Wine says.
Another Walker recording -- He says he called his mom. His mom told him to call 911, and he told 911 what happened, "still not knowing it was the police." He says he hung up on them after giving his name and location. Then he called Taylor's mom.
Walker says in another recording that Wine is playing that he initially said Taylor had shot the gun. "Clearly, I was scared. I don't know."
Wine: "It's important that the public knows that the police were not trying to disrespect" Taylor. They were acting on information given to them by Walker.
We're now hearing a recording of Mattingly. He's describing wanting to give Taylor plenty of time to get to the door. They knocked, he says, then he describes calling out identifying themselves. "I probably banged on the door six or seven different time periods."
Mattingly: There's a male and a female inside. As I turned the doorway, he's in a stretched out position, with his hands and a gun. "All the doors I've made entry in, I've never seen this." As soon as the shot hit, I felt the heat in my leg. Returned fire, got 4 rounds off.
Mattingly is describing some officers entering the apartment whose names we haven't heard before. A Campbell and a Hoover, if I'm hearing correctly. We'd been told there were three: Hankison, Cosgrove and Mattingly.
