To give you all an understanding of how Amazon is a rip off for authors, consider this.

A book sold on our website earns us 100% of that sale (minus processing fees). Authors earn 20% of book sales with us. Therefore, a book sold on our website earns authors $3.60 per sale.
The same book sells for the same price on Amazon, but our return on that sale could be as low as ~$5 by the time it reaches us, meaning authors are earning ~$1 per book.
If an author sells 200 copies of a book through our website: $720 in earnings.

If an author sells 200 copies of a book through Amazon: $200.
All to say: Amazon benefits Amazon only. Jeff Bezos is set to be the world's first trillionaire, as authors earn around $10,000 per year on average.
